The hard pack has less cells that can be fitted in it.

Therefore will decrease the mAh, decreasing power potential. 

The Disadvantage is you cannot see 

what extent a cell is damaged in the case of a crash.

However, An advantage advantage is your cell pack is secure at all times 

And is prevented from being damaged as extensively as a soft pack.

The soft case has a few issues which are noted by RC racers,It's lack of durability. 

The battery wrap is very flimsy and can be punctured or torn by various elements. 

Then there is the chance of a crash that could destroy the case.

There is less weight on the cell / battery pack which will allow for a less sluggish RC. 

The soft pack can also be ordered in larger quantities in terms of cell packing 

And will increase the mAh, giving you more power.
